Duck Girl
There once was a girl just obsessed with ducks,
She didn't like bikes or puppies or trucks.
Not dolls or tea sets; they weren't her thing.
But ducks and ducklings, made her heart sing!
Now a walk to the duck pond, filled her with joy,
Not an ice cream, a play date or a new toy.
Duck hat, duck scarf, duck glasses, duck gloves,
Duck this, duck that, they were her true loves!
Now one day at the duck pond, Darcy did see,
A mummy duck with her babies, not one, two or three.
But four baby ducklings swimming all in a row,
Following their Mummy- each one in tow.
To the edge of the water they'd swim in a line,
Awaiting the treats thrown in by passers-by.
They'd gobble up bread 'til their tummies were full,
Fighting over crusts with a goose or a gull.
"Quack! Quack!" shouted Mummy, to scare them away,
As the ducklings continued to eat, splash and play.
Mummy Duck led her babies back to their nest,
A day of playing and swimming, 'twas time for a rest.
All the ducklings got cosy, snuggled in their Mum's wing,
This duck and her ducklings, made Darcy's heart sing!
From the Press:
"Duck Girl" is a reminder of how simple devotion can light up a childhood. Emma's rhymes tumble easily, carrying us straight to the pond where joy is measured in feathers and webbed feet. It's playful without losing heart, and it captures the kind of love kids cling to with both hands. Emma's piece delights in the way obsession becomes identity when you're young. Through this, you can feel the full weight of one girl's duck-filled world. It's funny, tender, and true to how kids love, without apology, and no restraint.
