Our Story
Thistle & Thread began as a small idea that kept growing:
to create a publishing space and atmosphere that felt genuine, supportive, and straightforward—one where writers who often feel overlooked could step into the literary space without hoops or hierarchy.
In the beginning, it was just a laptop, a few drafts, and a long list of ideas. We started with chapbooks—first Flowers in the Garden, then a narrative collection written in the perspective of someone coming to terms with terminal cancer. Those early books remined us why small presses matter: every story deserves space.
As the press grew, so did the community around it. Our weekly features and monthly prompt series began drawing writers in—and we found ourselves building something meaningful right alongside them.
Looking Ahead
We're growing in a way that feels meaningful. Instead of rushing to fill a catalog, we're taking our time with each project—whether it's a chapbook, a journal, or a new digital feature. Our focus is on building work that supports writers and readers throughout the year.
The writing community around Thistle & Thread continues to shape where we go next. We'll keep expanding our weekly and monthly features, developing creative tools, and opening space for writers who want a different approach to publishing.
As we move forward, our priorities remain simple:
clarity, careful publishing, and a genuine commitment to the writers who trust us with their work.
